Arctic Expedition for Climate Action. This July, the Aspen Commission on Arctic Climate Change, along with more than 100 participants including President Jimmy Carter, Secretary Madeleine Albright, Ted Turner, Larry Page and other dignitaries, traveled to the high Norwegain arctic aboard the ship National Geographic Endeavour. Sponsored by National Geographic, the Aspen Institute and Lindblad Expeditions, the voyage was called the "Arctic Expedition for Climate Action." Read more.

Aspen Ideas Festival, hosted in partnership with The Atlantic. The 2008 Aspen Ideas Festival engaged its participants in a variety of events in an atmosphere of vibrant intellectual exchange. President Bill Clinton discussed Zimbabwe, former South African president Nelson Mandela, ways philanthropy can scale up solutions to serve and save more people more effectively, and the importance of schooling girls around the world during an interview with Aspen Institute Vice President for Philanthropy Jane Wales.

Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State, and Walter Isaacson, President and CEO of The Aspen Institute, will discuss issues of the day and her new book, Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America's Reputation and Leadership (HarperCollins). On July 22, Christopher Buckley, an American political satirist, former chief speechwriter for Vice President George H. W. Bush, and the author of several novels, discussed "What's in a Title?"
Five Ministries Selected for Ministerial Leadership Initiative for Global Health. Ethiopia, Mali, Nepal, Senegal and Sierra Leone have been selected to participate in an innovative initiative providing technical assistance and consultation in aid effectiveness, health financing for equity, and women's health. Jane Wales named the Women's Forum West Recipient of the 2008 IWF Women Who Make A Difference Award. Wales, VP for Philanthropy and Society at the Institute and CEO of the Global Philanthropy Forum, will receive the award at the IWF World Leadership Conference in Pittsburgh, PA, on October 17, 2008.
U.S.-Palestinian Partnership: Promoting Economic and Educational Opportunities for the Palestinian People. This innovative partnership was launched December 3, 2007 and its major activities include the May 2008 Palestinian Investment Conference in Bethlehem, which focused on attracting private sector investment in the Palestinian economy.
